The Story Behind the Numbers
Meet Ambika.
"If it weren't for Shanti Bhavan, my parents would have had to choose between my education and their quality of life."
That's how Ambika describes what a Shanti Bhavan education meant for her family. Before she arrived, her parents were supporting their extended family while trying to build a more stable future. Knowing her education, healthcare, and daily needs were covered gave them room to pay off their debts and build a home of their own.
This fall, Ambika begins studying Economics at Claremont McKenna College. She's eager to learn American Sign Language, try pottery, and experience college life in the US. Further ahead, she hopes to bring nutritious food and clean water to families in her community, and to encourage more parents to send their daughters to school, because she knows firsthand what education makes possible.
